About HUFA

Three afternoons that did not have an answer.

HUFA did not start as a business idea. It started as three afternoons when I needed to be in two places at once, and could not be.

The first

My father needed someone with him. Not a nurse and not a medical thing. Just a person in the room who would talk to him, and who would notice if something were not right. I was at work. I called three people I knew. All three were busy, and all three were embarrassed about being busy, which somehow made it worse.

The second

My parents had a doctor's appointment. Getting there was not the problem. The problem is remembering everything that was said, asking the question that only occurs to you on the way home, and pushing back when a consultation is being rushed. Somebody needed to go with them. That somebody was supposed to be me.

The third

I was ill in bed, and a rental agreement still had to be printed, carried to the tenant, signed, and brought back. Nothing about it was difficult. All of it needed a person, that day, and I was not able to be that person.

In all three, what I needed was not a skill. It was a person I could trust.

Why nothing I tried worked

I went looking for an app. Every marketplace in India opens the same way, with a grid of categories. Plumber. Electrician. Cleaning. Salon at home. The grid is the product, and the grid is also the limit, because you can only ask for what somebody already put in a box.

"Sit with my father this afternoon" is not a category. It is a situation, and a situation only fits inside a sentence. That is the whole reason HUFA's front door is a text box and not a menu.

The grid is the competitor's product. It is also the competitor's ceiling.

What "humans first, always" actually means

It is four commitments, and they are the things that would be easiest to quietly drop later, which is exactly why they are written down here.

A person is accountable, not a platform. Right now every single job is done by the person who built this. There is nobody to be passed along to.

The price is set by the person who needs the help. Not by an algorithm, not by a surge multiplier, and not by a bidding war that pushes the people doing the work downwards.

Money moves last. Nothing is charged when a job is promised. It is paid when the work is done.

Trust runs in both directions. The helper rates you and you rate the helper. Trust that only travels one way is not trust, it is a rating system pointed at whoever has less power.

Where HUFA is today

Early access. Bangalore. One helper. The app itself works end to end, from describing a job to paying for it, and it is being opened one pincode at a time rather than all at once.

The first goal is not a hundred signups. It is ten people using HUFA three times each, because the third time is when something stops being a novelty and becomes part of how a person manages their life.

Who is behind this

For now this page carries no name and no face. That is deliberate while HUFA is this small, and it is temporary. Before anyone is asked to let a stranger into their home or near their parents, they will know exactly who that person is, what verification they have been through, and how to reach someone who is accountable for it. Anonymity is fine for a founder writing an about page. It is not fine for the person knocking on the door.
